Liberal Democrats have obtained information proving that the SNP’s flagship education policy of cutting class sizes is in tatters. The information, obtained using Freedom of Information legislation shows that out of those that responded, not a single council had a strategy in place to implement the SNP’s class size policy in time.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Education Secretary Jeremy Purvis MSP said:
“A year into the SNP Government, their flagship education policy is now incontrovertibly in tatters. Using the Freedom of Information legislation, Liberal Democrats can now prove, beyond any doubt, that the Government will not meet its promise to cut class sizes.
“Almost every week since coming to office the Government has insisted that the class size policy is intact. We already know that adequate funding has not been provided to local councils. These latest responses from local authorities in Scotland about strategies to implement class sizes, clearly demonstrate that the SNP will not deliver this promise.
“The class size pledge was a key election promise and many parents across Scotland voted SNP because of it. Not a single council has said that they are in a position to implement the Government’s policy and this will be a colossal let down by the SNP to parents in Scotland.”
