Liberal Democrat Schools and Skills spokesperson Hugh O’Donnell MSP has condemned the SNP’s arrogance about its class size policy.

Answers to Parliamentary Questions tabled by Mr O’Donnell reveal that the SNP has refused to commission research into the impact of class size reductions, as recommended by the Class Sizes, Staffing and Resources Working Group.

Commenting, Mr O’Donnell said:

“The Minister’s blanket refusal to implement recommendations from an expert group is a stunning mistake. The expert group has recommended commissioning research into the impact of reducing class sizes. Given that just this weekend, Liberal Democrat exposed that this flagship policy was in tatters, I expected a little more humility from the SNP.

“There’s a danger that by blundering ahead with this policy, the SNP could jeopardise teaching standards and staff and pupil wellbeing. The SNP’s arrogance about their class size policy is unbelievable, but sadly unsurprising.”
