Nicol Stephen tribute to Ray Michie

Commenting on the sad news that Liberal Democrat peer Ray Michie has passed away, Nicol Stephen, Leader of the Liberal Democrats in Scotland said:

“My thoughts are with Ray’s family at this very sad time.

“Ray Michie was one of the leading figures in the Scottish Liberal Democrats for many years. I can still remember the huge excitement when she was first elected as MP for Argyll & Bute. She always fought tirelessly for her constituents and for Scotland.

“We shared an office in the House of Commons and she always gave the very best of advice. I saw at first hand her passionate commitment to the creation of a Scottish Parliament. Ray was also a champion of the Gaidhlig language and, as Baroness Michie of Gallanach, was the first member of the House of Lords to take the oath in Gaidhlig.

“Ray was much loved by those inside and outside politics and will be very greatly missed.”
