SNP candidate's referendum gaff exposes sham policy

Glasgow East SNP by-election candidate John Mason has conceded that the SNP would not necessarily accept a ‘No’ vote in a referendum on independence. Speaking on the campaign trail Cllr. Mason is quoted as saying, “When you ask someone to marry you, sometimes you have to persist".

Commenting on the concession that the SNP could go on asking the people in successive referendums until it got the answer it wanted, Liberal Democrat by-election Campaign Chair Robert Brown MSP said:

“The cat is out of the bag. John Mason’s concession that the SNP would hold successive referendums on Scottish independence until they got the answer they wanted has exposed Alex Salmond’s claim that a referendum would be a ‘once in a generation’ event as a sham.

“Throughout the Glasgow East by-election campaign the Liberal Democrat candidate Ian Robertson has been highlighting how an SNP MP would always put the fight for nationalism above the interests of the East End of Glasgow.

"This confirms what we have been saying throughout the campaign, that Ian Robertson is the only alternative to Labour in Glasgow East."
