New officers must focus on community policing - Brown

Commenting on the latest publication of police recruitment figures in Scotland showing an increase of 149 officers in the last quarter, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesperson Robert Brown MSP said:

"Liberal Democrats want to see more Community Officers working in local areas with the police to protect those at risk of crime and reassuring the public.

"Although this increase in police numbers is welcome, Ministers must ensure that police officers are working effectively in Scotland's local communities.

"It is important that any new police officers get up to speed as quickly as possible. That is why I will be asking the Justice Secretary to make sure that experienced officers are sharing their expertise with new recruits."
