Commenting on the SNP Government's announcement on 'new proposals' to cut the amount of packaging produced in Scotland, Liberal Democrat Environment spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:
"This is just more SNP spin. Ministers have announced nothing new and no new policies. All they are doing is asking for views on the UK Government's Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
"Almost a year ago I secured cross party support for my Members' Debate calling on the Scottish Government to take real action to drive down excess packaging.
"One year on and all that SNP Ministers have done is talk about talking about cutting packaging. This isn't good enough.
"Tackling excess packaging should be a central objective for the Scottish Government. Ministers must work with product designers and manufacturers to encourage them to use sustainable designs and materials."
Ends.
