Smith: SNP Government must get priorities right

Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP says that it is time for the Government to get its education priorities right.

Speaking a debate on Schools in the Scottish Parliament, Margaret Smith said:

“In 2007 the SNP inherited a record numbers of teachers, unparalleled spending in our universities and concrete investment in our schools.

“But on the SNP’s watch teacher numbers have plummeted, pupils are being taught in crumbling buildings and the SNP have spent its money on free schools meals for rich kids.

“The Government owes it to our young people to turn this shoddy record on education around and get its priorities right.

“We want children to leave primary school numerate, able to read and write and to learn in environments that are fit for purpose.

“The SNP has let our young people down. We cannot afford to gamble with our young people’s future.”
