Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP has revealed that over 700 classes were taught in temporary accommodation in primary and secondary schools across Scotland from 2010-2012.

The alarming figures obtained through a Freedom of Information request show that the SNP government is failing to deliver its 2007 pledge to build a raft of new schools.

“These alarming figures are unacceptable. Thousands of children are being taught in substandard, temporary classrooms across Scotland.

“The SNP government has long deserted its 2007 commitment to match Liberal Democrat-Labour school building achievements “brick for brick.” Their disgraceful attempt to hoodwink parents by defending their pointless Scottish Futures Trust shows how out of touch their education policies are.

“Scotland’s parents and pupils deserve to see foundations being laid today. Under the SNP, all we hear about is their pipedreams for tomorrow.

“Every child deserves to be taught in classrooms which are in good condition. It makes a mockery of Scotland’s renowned education system that 764 primary and secondary classes had to be taught in temporary accommodation.

“The SNP must examine these figures and get to work on delivering the schools they promised to build 5 years ago.”
