Biography

Hugh is very familiar with the Central Scotland region, having worked as a political aide to the former MSP for the area, Donald Gorrie.

Hugh graduated from Queen Margaret University College with a degree in communications and has worked in the retail and property sectors, as a community care professional and as a college lecturer before being drawn to Holyrood.

Hugh has been involved with the Liberal Democrats for many years, standing for Westminster, Holyrood and councils in various areas before successfully being elected as MSP for the Central Scotland region. He also been a member of both the Scottish and federal policy committees and has held the position of vice convenor and treasurer of the Central Scotland Liberal Democrats.

He has a particular interest in disability rights issues, minority groups’ rights and social issues. Outside politics, Hugh’s interests are reading, historical research and Tai Chi.
