Biography
Margaret Smith is an experienced campaigner who has been the local Member of the Scottish Parliament since 1999. Margaret has served as Convener of the Health and Community Care Committee, Vice Convenor of the Equal Opportunities Committee and on the Local Government and Transport Committee and the Justice Committee. She has previously held the position of Scottish Liberal Democrats’ Chief Whip as well as spokespersonships on Local Government, Justice and now Education and Young People.
Margaret has lived in West Edinburgh for more than forty years and lives locally with her partner, son, daughter and 3 stepsons. Three of her children attend local schools. When she gets time away from politics she enjoys reading crime thrillers, travelling and spending time with her family. A very occasional golfer she is a long time member of Ravelston Golf Club. She is also vice President of Queensferry Churches Care in the Community Project.
