Biography

Malcolm Bruce MP is currently the President of the Scottish Liberal Democrats. He was elected MP for the Aberdeenshire seat of Gordon in June 1983.

As an MP he has a strong interest in a variety of issues such as energy and the environment as well as deafness. He is President of the Grampian Branch and a National Vice President of the National Deaf Children's Society. Malcolm is also a former President and current Vice-President of GLOBE International (Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment).

In Parliament, Malcolm is the Chair of the influential International Development Select Committee and has held a number of high profile Party spokesmanships in Westminster including Trade and Industry, Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Treasury. He has also been a member of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee, the Trade and Industry Select Committee, the Committee for Standards and Privileges and the Treasury Select Committee.

He was made a Privy Councillor in 2006 by invitation of Her Majesty the Queen.

Malcolm joined the Liberal Party at the age of 17 and was President of the Liberal Club at St. Andrews. He went on to do an MSc in Marketing at Strathclyde University. In 1995, he was called to the bar (Gray's Inn). He went on to establish Aberdeen Petroleum Publishing, with a partner, in 1981. Malcolm’s personal interests include music, theatre and walking. Malcolm has a grown-up son and a daughter from his first marriage. He has been married to Rosemary since 1998 and they have two daughters and a son.
