Biography
Alistair Carmichael was elected MP for Orkney and Shetland in 2001. He joined the Liberal Democrat front bench a year later as a Northern Ireland Spokesman. In 2005 he moved to the Home Affairs team.
Following the election of Sir Menzies Campbell to leader of the party, Alistair was made Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Transport.
Before being elected to Parliament Alistair was a solicitor and also a hotel manager.
He is 41 years old, and married with two children. In his spare time he enjoys listening to music and cooking.
