Chamberlain comments on police authority sexism paper
Commenting on the Scottish Police Authority paper into sexism and misogyny, Scottish Liberal Democrat deputy leader and former police officer Wendy Chamberlain MP said:
"There is no doubt that sexism and misogyny disguised as banter has a corrosive effect on Scottish policing. Sadly it did not surprise me that the proportion of officers subject to this behaviour was so high.
"I think Ian Livingstone's declaration was well-meaning but now it must reverberate through the ranks and working conditions must change. In particular that will mean a focus on training front-line management like sergeants and supervisors to deal with this behaviour and ensure that it is stamped out.
“Reporting and addressing this must be improved so that every officer must have confidence that the police are a supportive working environment in which they are judged on the work they do."
