Cole-Hamilton responds to loss of confidence in mental health support
Responding to new research by the Royal College of Psychiatrists that more than half of Scots are “not confident” they would be able to access mental health support if they need it, with only 11% being optimistic that mental health services will improve, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“The Scottish Government’s abject failure to get to grips with mental health is making people feel completely helpless.
“The long shadow of lockdown, the pressures of the cost of living and the SNP’s reckless decision to cut £50m from the mental health budget have brought the system to its knees.
“To repair the crisis, Scottish Liberal Democrats would install more counsellors in schools, ramp up training to offer every workplace the benefit of a mental health first aider and roll out more mental health professionals near to you in GP surgeries and A&E departments.”
