Responding to reporting in the Herald that executives at Scottish Water have had their bonuses hiked by over a third in one year, despite an increase in sewage dumps and water bills set to increase by almost 10% in April, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

“Scotland’s government-owned water company are clobbering customers with water bill rises, failing to fix core problems with the sewage network but dishing out mega bonuses for their bosses. It's hopelessly out of touch.

“After presiding over tens of thousands of sewage dumps year after year, these bonuses feel like a reward for failure. It’s time the Scottish Government finally got tough on Scottish Water.

“That starts by listening to my party’s calls for a Clean Water Act, which would update our Victorian sewage network and clamp down on discharges.”
