Cole-Hamilton: Separation papers are an insulting distraction
Responding to the publication of the SNP’s latest independence paper, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“Using civil servants to push papers on Scottish independence is an insulting distraction to everyone waiting for help with the cost-of-living crisis, on lifeline ferries or for critical operations and treatments.
"Islanders and NHS workers will take fresh SNP promises with a fistful of salt given they have been left to pick up the pieces.
“Humza Yousaf knows perfectly well that there is no public support for either breaking up the UK or another referendum so he should focus on using the huge powers that devolution has brought for the good of the people of Scotland.
“This proves once again that the SNP are part of the problem- they are not the solution.
“Liberal Democrats would introduce a fair voting system, end the unelected House of Lords and establish fool-proof systems to see the Scottish and UK Governments working together in all our interests.
“With the SNP in apparent freefall, there is a chance to make devolution work as it should, and Scottish Liberal Democrats will be part of what’s next.”
