Cole-Hamilton: We need Yousaf and Sunak out of government
Speaking ahead of his party's latest national campaign day on Saturday, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP has today told voters that we need Humza Yousaf and Rishi Sunak out of government, as he bids to grow the party's base in every corner of Scotland.
After gaining more councillors than any other opposition party at the Scottish local elections last year, Mr Cole-Hamilton announced his 150 Rising strategy which aims for 150 or more seats in just four years’ time. Across the country this Saturday, Scottish Liberal Democrat activists will be out campaigning in a series of target wards.
In the English local elections last week, Liberal Democrats took control of a swathe of Conservative councils, including those in the constituencies of Nadhim Zahawi (Stratford-on-Avon), Michael Gove (Surrey Health) and Theresa May (Windsor and Maidenhead).
Speaking ahead of the action day, Mr Cole-Hamilton said:
“Last week, our party made waves with ground-breaking victories at the local elections, winning big in Conservative heartlands and showing what’s possible when you elect a Liberal Democrat.
“Last year, that revival began in the Scottish local elections when we increased our number of councillors by almost a third.
“We believe in communities, and we believe in public service. Up and down the country, Liberal Democrat councillors are crackling with strong and credible alternatives to a stagnated status quo.
“Whether failure is wrapped in Tory blue or the acid yellow of the SNP, the net result is the same. An NHS at boiling point, sewage pouring into our rivers and beaches and families crying out for help with the cost-of-living crisis.
“Rishi Sunak and Humza Yousaf are both out of touch, both out of ideas and we need them both out of government.
“So, my message to voters is this: back the Liberal Democrats and you will see a return on that investment for you and those around you. Put your faith in us and we will work our hearts out for you.
“Change is coming for Scotland, and Liberal Democrats are going to be part of what’s next.”
