Crumbly concrete closes courts
Commenting on the closure of two court rooms in Airdrie to tackle crumbly concrete and a series of other court buildings undergoing review, Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur said:
"Scotland's courts are already facing a huge backlog. Both accused and accusers deserve their day in court.
"The fact that the Airdrie court has had to close for remedial work will create extra work for court staff and delay cases from being seen as swiftly as they otherwise might be.
"With ten more courts being investigated for this concrete, we will have to hope that there are no further disruptions. Justice system bosses must proceed with caution because as we have seen in some schools, beams that were previously deemed safe are not guaranteed to remain that way.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats will continue to press the Scottish Government to deliver a national fund to remove RAAC from our public buildings and ensure they are safe for everyone who has to work there."
