Liberal Democrats target cost of living crisis as Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election officially starts
Scottish Liberal Democrats have today said that they will be prioritising action on the cost of living, as the writ was moved for the forthcoming Rutherglen and Hamilton West by-election.
Gloria Adebo, the Liberal Democrat candidate in the by election, has been calling for urgent action to help people struggling with mortgages, urging the government to tackle rising food prices and challenging the Scottish Government to reverse plans for steep rises in council tax
Gloria Adebo said:
“It is clear from the many conversations I and my team have had with local people that the cost of living crisis is the number one issue facing constituents here in Rutherglen and Hamilton West. Our Liberal Democrat messages on this are very much hitting the target with local families.
“People are being let down by out of touch Conservative and SNP governments.
“I am passionate about giving this constituency the representation it deserves and I will be using the coming weeks to carry on making the case for action to help squeezed households weather steep rises in energy, mortgage and food bills.”
Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
“Gloria has been doing what Liberal Democrats do best: standing up for local communities and offering positive solutions.
“Cutting household bills is absolutely crucial at a time when so many Scots are feeling more stretched than ever.
People are better off when they have a Liberal Democrat representative who will listen to them and campaign on the issues that really matter.
