McArthur comments as legal action given go-ahead over deposit return scheme losses
Responding to the news that a judge has ruled that a £166m legal claim against the Scottish Government over the failed deposit return scheme can go ahead, Scottish Liberal Democrat climate emergency spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
"Deposit return schemes have operated successfully around the world and Scotland should have been no different. However, by refusing to listen to industry voices and then making it into a constitutional issue, the scheme fell apart.
“Businesses wracked up huge costs preparing for the scheme to go live. It’s no surprise that they want to recover these costs after the government strung them along.”
