Responding to the news that fire chiefs are calling on people to act responsibly after an “extreme” wildfire warning was issued for the whole of Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP Liam McArthur said:

“The climate emergency is not just a problem for someone else, somewhere else. Scotland is feeling the consequences first-hand and this reinforces the urgency of the challenge we face.

“I welcome the advice of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. There are simple steps the public can take to mitigate the risk of wildfires by avoiding lighting fires outdoors where possible and being careful with glass and cigarettes.

"However, under the SNP, SFRS have lost more than 1,000 staff over the last decade. They need to be properly resourced and equipped to tackle the threats that confront our planet today.”
