McArthur responds to Just Transition Commission report
Responding to the Time to Deliver Report published by the Scottish Government's independent Just Transition Commission, which states that “the current path will not deliver a just transition” and recommends a “genuine whole-of-government approach to delivery,” Scottish Liberal Democrat climate emergency spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“For the just transition to succeed, it must be backed up by credible government policy and appropriate investment. To date, such leadership on the part of SNP/Green Ministers has been lacking.
"For years, the UK Climate Change Committee has warned of a lack of detailed action to back up SNP/Green rhetoric. Now, even their own advisors are warning that their current plans are not fit for purpose.
“Setting targets and making eye-catching announcements are easy. What this Scottish Government needs to focus on is delivery.
“As households continue to battle enduring fuel poverty and a cost-of-living crisis, the government must deliver a just transition that works in the interests of all.
“From our plans for a nationwide insulation programme to measures that would boost the uptake of electric vehicles, Scottish Liberal Democrats understand the importance of getting this right. We need a just transition which supports households and businesses, brings down bills and cuts emissions.”
