Police Federation warn of dangerous precedent of not investigating crimes
Responding to comments from David Threadgold, chair of the Scottish Police Federation warning that a Police Scotland pilot in the North East, which will see certain crimes no longer investigated as part of an attempt to prioritise emergencies, is a “dangerous precedent” which risks leading to public mistrust of the police force, Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“Frontline officers and staff seem to be no happier about these proposals than victims of crime are.
“If you’ve signed up to solve crimes and serve the public, it must be tremendously hard to tell people “Sorry we’re not going to look into your case”.
“Likewise being a victim of crime can be traumatising and for many it will seem like the system just doesn’t care.
“To cut crime and deliver for communities, Scottish Liberal Democrats would enhance community policing and ensure that officers have both the support and resources they need to do their jobs.”
