Pound-foolish SNP cutting university investment budget
Commenting on new figures from the Scottish Funding Council which show that capital funding for universities is set to decrease by £12.8m (-33.8%) in the forthcoming year, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Willie Rennie said:
"The Scottish Government are acting penny-wise but pound-foolish.
"Our world class universities are perhaps the best shot we have to be at the forefront of the technological breakthroughs that will deliver high wage, highly skilled jobs across Scotland but if the government fails to invest in the University sector we will soon find ourselves slipping down the pile.
"For the sake of students, researchers and the wider Scottish economy, ministers should look again at these cuts."
