Public trust in decline after two decades of SNP failure
Scottish Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie MSP has today said that people “feel like nothing works anymore” under the SNP after a new official survey found that trust in the Scottish Government dropped by 10% in a year and trust in public services fell on every measure.
According to the Scottish Household Survey: Trust in Public Institutions 2023 report, which asked to what extent people trusted seven different public institutions:
- Trust in the Scottish Government fell from 55% in 2022 to 45% in 2023;
- Trust has also fallen in other public institutions, including the health system, the education system, the police and local government.
Mr Rennie said:
“People are fed up with almost two decades of SNP failure. For too many people, it feels like nothing works anymore and that they are being taken for granted.
“The SNP used to crow about high levels of satisfaction and have been complacent for far too long, resulting in these plummeting levels of trust and satisfaction.
“My party want to see an end the long waits for NHS treatment and to fix social care. We want to lift up Scottish education and get our economy growing to create great public services.
“All of that should be at the very top of John Swinney’s agenda, but like so many others across Scotland, I won’t be holding my breath.”
