Rennie comments on embargoed Accounts Commission report
Responding to the Accounts Commission’s latest report on the finances of local government in Scotland, which warns that Scotland’s councils face a challenging future, with significant financial risks and uncertainties as with council borrowing increasing by over £400 million and almost all councils now facing higher levels of debt and annual interest costs, Scottish Liberal Democrat communities spokesperson Willie Rennie MSP said:
"Local authorities have had a tough deal from the SNP over many years and that has had a knock-on impact on the services that Scots rely on every day.
"We need an end to the era of school strikes, bin strikes and shortages of care packages.
"Ministers must provide local councils with the long-term funding and economic levers necessary to properly tackle local priorities.”
