Rennie comments on ‘excoriating’ letter from Children and Young People's Commissioner to Scottish Government

Responding to a letter from The Children and Young People’s Commissioner to the Scottish Government about the shortage of secure unit accommodation, Scottish Liberal Democrat Willie Rennie MSP said:

“This excoriating letter to the minister from the commissioner reveals the risk to the safety of vulnerable children because the government were so ill-prepared for the implementation of its own legislation.

“We were repeatedly promised during the passage of the Children Care and Justice Bill that everything would be ready in time but now we have vulnerable children being accommodated in ‘cobbled together’ facilities.

“The minister must get a grip and make a statement to parliament on the precise actions she is taking.”
