Responding to a new survey from the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) which warns that teachers are concerned that violence and aggression from both pupils and parents is rising, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Willie Rennie said:

“Schools should be a safe space to learn but for too many staff and pupils it is a place to fear.

“I have been pursuing school behaviour for some time including highlighting to the First Minister an ugly incident at a local school in my constituency.

“The behaviour summits led by the Education Secretary are a decent start but we need a plan of action which includes better back up for teachers.

“As the next summit is next week this report should provide fresh impetus to get that plan in place without delay.”
