Rennie responds to teacher pay deal
Responding to the news that the EIS, Scotland’s largest teaching union, have voted to accept a pay offer which will end long-running school strikes, Scottish Liberal Democrat education spokesperson Willie Rennie MSP said:
"It is such good news for pupils and teachers, but it is a travesty that it has taken so long for an agreement to be reached.
"The prolonged and bitter dispute has caused unquantifiable harm to the relationship between the teaching profession and a SNP Government that told them they were paid more than enough.
"The Government now needs to support teachers rather than undermine them as young people deserve a good education after years of turmoil."
