Satisfaction with public transport among disabled people falls by almost 10%

Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Daniel O’Malley has today urged the SNP Government to make public transport more affordable and accessible, after new figures revealed there has been a 9% drop in satisfaction with public transport among disabled people.
The Scottish Household Survey 2023 presents findings on disability and transport, showing that:
- Since 2019, there has been a 9% drop in disabled people’s satisfaction with public transport.
- Disabled people are less likely to feel safe and secure on buses and trains in the evening than non-disabled people.
- 41% of disabled people did not find it easy to afford their transport costs, whereas 70% of non-disabled people did.
Scottish Liberal Democrat transport spokesperson Daniel O’Malley said:
“This is yet another sad reflection of SNP neglect.
“Our transport system should work for all, but instead more and more disabled people feel that it doesn't serve their needs. In many ways, it comes as no surprise when the SNP have decimated the bus network, mismanaged ferries and failed to reform rail fares.
“Scottish Liberal Democrats have set out extensive plans to make our public transport more affordable and more accessible. We want to see new two/ three day a week season tickets on trains, reliable ferries and communities put in charge of where and when buses go.”
