Commenting on the threat of new taxes in the programme for government, Willie Rennie MSP said:

“In the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, the SNP are threatening to squeeze middle income Scots harder and harder.

“The nationalist failure to grow the economy means less money for overwhelmed public services, but rather than admit they have made a mess, they are picking the pockets of average Scots to plug the gap.

“Scotland needs its government to get serious about delivering highly skilled, high wage jobs and ending a decade of depressed economic performance.”

On plans for free school meals not being delivered until 2026, he added:

"Free school meals are a way of ensuring that young children start the day with nutritious food.

"The nationalists made big promises but it's clear that they have no prospect of delivering them before the next election.

"These delays and broken pledges are a perfect illustration of why voters should not vote for the SNP."
