Scottish ministers need to get tough on sewage dumping by the government-owned water company

Responding to reports in the i newspaper that Scottish Water have admitted that dozens of “high-priority” projects to stop the worst sewage releases in Scotland have still not been carried out more than two years on, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton said:
"It's disappointing that these projects have not yet been completed. Time is ticking for these essential upgrades to be done. We know that there were more than 25,000 sewage dumps in Scotland in 2023 so tackling problem blackspots is of the utmost urgency.
"Scottish ministers need to stop their excuses and get tough on sewage dumping by the government-owned water company.
"Scottish Liberal Democrats have published plans for a Clean Water Act that would see a new blue flag system for Scotland's rivers, as well as vital updates to our sewage network and a clamp down on discharges."
